Introduction
It is slated to commence commercial operations by September 2025, aiming to supply electricity to a minimum of 65,000 households. Described as Zambia's inaugural solar facility equipped with battery storage, the project holds an estimated value of $65 million. Its 15,000m 2 plant in Richmond, Cape Town, became the first gigawatt factory on the continent when it began operations in July 2024. The facility can produce up to 3,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) or 3 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity per year. A mobile solar container is essentially a plug-and-play power station built inside a modified shipping container. It combines photovoltaic panels, charge controllers, inverters, and lithium or hybrid battery systems into one durable, transportable package. The Nanadu Power 20-foot container combines lithium-ion batteries, thermal management, and AI-driven analytics.
