Introduction
Energy Vault and Enel have revealed plans to build 18 MW/36 MWh of gravity storage in the United States. One of the US’s largest solar + battery storage projects is now fully online in Mojave, California. Texas is set to host the first gravitational storage facility in a Western country: it will be built by Energy Vault, a Swiss company that’s a pioneer in the case of this innovative technology. In the future, will we pump water up a hill or have heavy blocks being raised and lowered to store large amounts of energy? Doesn’t sound very futuristic but as renewable energy sources like solar and wind become more prevalent, the need for large-scale, long-duration energy storage is rapidly.
