The breakthrough could extend battery lifespans, reduce charging times, and accelerate the global shift toward sustainable transportation. Donut Lab lit the EV and energy storage industry on fire last week with its announcement of a 400 Wh/kg solid-state battery cell that can last for 100 years. A cheaper, safer, and more abundant alternative to lithium is finally making its way into cars—and the grid. But lithium’s limited supply and volatile price have led the industry to seek more resilient. How well many electric vehicles perform is greatly influenced by microscopic oxygen holes in their battery's cathodes. That's why researchers at the Pohang University of Science and Technology, or POSTECH, are working to stabilize the key component, according to a news release.
