Maputo pumped hydropower station

In a world thirsty for sustainable solutions, the Maputo Hydropower Storage initiative isn’t just another dam project—it’s a masterclass in marrying ancient water wisdom with 21st-century tech. Mphanda Nkuwa Dam is a proposed hydroelectric dam on the Zambezi River in Mozambique. It would be located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) downstream of the existing Cahora Bassa Dam near the city of Tete. The project is included in Mozambique’s National Energy Sector Master Plan 2018 to 2043 as a national priority, as well as a priority investment for the Southern Africa Power Pool Plan. It entails the development of a 1 500 MW hydropower project and associated transmission facilities. It has the capability to run for more than seven days continuously before it needs to be ‘recharged’. When electricity demand is low,excess energy from the grid is used to pumpater from the lower to the upper re reservoir through turbines generates power.
