Introduction
The project, planned to be developed in two phases, is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2026. International Development Association (IDA) Sao Tome and Principe (STP) is reeling from the impacts of exogenous shocks compounded by local events. Release by Scatec, the flexible power-leasing subsidiary of Norway’s Scatec ASA, has signed a lease agreement with EMAE, the national electricity utility of São Tomé & Príncipe, to deploy an 11 MW solar plant that will expand the country’s renewable-energy capacity and reduce dependence on imported. Major projects now deploy clusters of 20+ containers creating storage farms with 100+MWh capacity at costs below $280/kWh.
