China has brought a massive offshore solar farm online – a full 1 gigawatt of photovoltaic capacity built at sea. The Guohua Investment Shandong HG14 Offshore Photovoltaic Project is now online and operating commercially, according to China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy). 4 TW of solar and wind capacity, nearly 26% of which (357 gigawatts (GW)) came online in 2024. Recently in China, Luneng Group’s multi-energy hybrid project in Fukang, Changji Prefecture, Xinjiang, hit a key milestone as the concrete shell of its 100 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) receiver tower was topped out.
