Introduction
MIT researchers have developed a scalable fabrication technique to produce ultrathin, lightweight solar cells that can be stuck onto any surface. The thin-film solar cells weigh about 100 times less than conventional solar cells while generating about 18 times more power-per-kilogram. This system is realized through the unique combination of innovative and advanced container. NLR's materials discovery and design researchers work to discover new light-absorbing semiconductors and develop existing absorbers to enable technologies such as thin-film photovoltaic (PV) devices and photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells. In this article, we will explore the concept of container solar systems and how they are transforming the landscape of photovoltaic power generation.
