Introduction
Major projects now deploy clusters of 20+ containers creating storage farms with 100+MWh capacity at costs below $280/kWh. State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan, at the EU4Energy Policy Forum in Copenhagen, has unveiled the vision of Moldova regarding the development of a sustainable energy system, with a focus on increasing energy storage capacities and integrating renewable sources. The announcement was made at a public event, attended by key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society, and development partners. Moldova’s energy sector has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past four years, shifting from near-total dependence on Russian supplies to integration with European markets and investment in its growing renewable energy sector. Pre-fabricated containerized solutions now account for approximately 35% of all new utility-scale storage deployments worldwide. In November 2022, the Republic of Moldova officially launched the preparation of the analytical, institutional and regulatory preconditions for the development of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (hereinafter NECP) for 2025-2030.
